How Manchester companies use invoice finance
Manchester's creative and digital agencies, TV production companies, recruiters and B2B service firms all tend to share one headache: work is delivered long before the money arrives. A production company may wait for a broadcaster's payment run, a digital agency may bill in arrears on 30 to 60 day terms, and a recruitment firm has to pay temporary workers every week regardless. Invoice finance addresses this by advancing a proportion of each unpaid invoice, often 80–90%, and paying the rest, minus fees, when the customer pays. It rises with turnover, so it suits companies that are growing quickly. Firms can choose a confidential arrangement or have the lender handle collections. Manufacturers in the surrounding boroughs use it too, especially when selling to large retailers. We compare invoice finance facilities from lenders on our panel for Manchester companies.

How Manchester's service businesses turn invoices into cash
Banking, finance, insurance and professional and business services make up Greater Manchester's largest group of jobs, around 252,400 in December 2024, or 19% of the total. Recruitment agencies, IT consultancies, marketing agencies and facilities firms in this group usually invoice other businesses on 30 to 60 day terms, while paying staff weekly or monthly. Invoice finance advances a share of each approved invoice, often 80–90%, so that gap does not hold back growth.

Salford's creative and technology sector has grown by over 50% since 2019 and now has more than 2,000 businesses and 32,000 jobs. Production companies and post-houses around MediaCityUK often wait for a broadcaster's payment run after delivering a programme, which is where funding against delivered work can help.

Payment rules are also changing. In March 2026 the government confirmed plans for a 60-day ceiling on payment terms when larger businesses buy from smaller suppliers, and for statutory late-payment interest to apply to all business contracts, though these are not expected before 2027. Until then, if a contract says nothing about interest, you can already claim statutory interest at 8% above the Bank of England base rate on late invoices.

Invoice Finance in Manchester: questions
Can a TV production company finance invoices to broadcasters?
It is often possible once episodes or other deliverables have been completed and invoiced. Lenders are cautious about invoices tied to work still to be delivered, so the timing of invoices and the commissioning contract both matter. Broadcasters are usually seen as reliable payers, which can help with the percentage advanced.
Can a Greater Manchester supplier to the NHS or local councils use invoice finance?
Yes. Public bodies are generally seen as low-risk payers, so lenders are usually willing to fund these invoices. Their purchase order and approval processes can slow payment, so make sure each invoice quotes the correct order number. Some lenders also check that the contract allows invoices to be assigned to a third party.
Can a Trafford Park food manufacturer finance invoices to supermarkets?
Often, yes, but lenders look closely at deductions. Retailers can take off promotional charges, rebates or short-delivery claims, so the amount actually paid may be less than the invoice. Lenders usually allow for this by advancing a lower percentage or reserving part of the ledger. Clear records of past deductions make the assessment easier.
Can a Manchester digital agency finance retainers invoiced in advance?
Usually not. Invoice finance relies on work that has already been delivered, so invoices raised in advance for next month's retainer are normally excluded. Invoices for completed project stages or work delivered in arrears are easier to fund. Some agencies change their billing pattern so more of their invoices qualify.
Can a Greater Manchester manufacturer finance invoices to customers overseas?
Some lenders offer export invoice finance, often for customers in Europe and North America. They will look at the countries involved, the payment terms and the customer's credit standing, and may require credit insurance. Invoices in euros or dollars can sometimes be funded, though currency movements affect how much is advanced.
